What is "OPEN
STUDIO"?
Classes
in the OPEN STUDIO are flexible classes where you can drop-in for one
class or several classes to suit yourself. This type of teaching is
mostly directed at dancers with prior experience from
either Gypsy/Flamenco or Tribal Style dance or Bellydance.
OPEN
STUDIO is
focused on the
dance as an art form and participants can expect to be challenged in
technique and creativity.
Classes
can be offered at four different levels:
BEGINNERS
level
Every
one can participate - no dance background is required. But just as with
the other "Open Studio" classes we go fast forward and these beginners
classes will very fast take you through the basic technique before you
enter the next level. It can be recommended to do a little
home-studying :). For ATS level 1 is beginners class
INTERMEDIATE
level
The level teaches the "essentials" of each dance style - but it is
not to be mistaken for
beginners-level. At this level you do not neccesarily need a lot of
experience in Gypsy or Tribal style dance, but the teaching level is
aimed at dancers with at least 1-3 years dance experience or
similar other dance knowledge.
ADVANCED level
This level is more demanding - aimed at dancers with at least 4-8 years
of dance experience within Gypsy/Tribal dance. For the Tribal
classes it is also important to notice that techniques and grounding
are quite different from traditional bellydance and therefore it is not
always possible to draw a parallelle in skills between the two styles.
All Tribal Fusion classes requires knowledge of ATS®.
Very
advanced technique, combos and a high teaching speed is offered here.
The advanced classes do not aim to dwell on basic technique but to
challenge the skilled dancers both in technique and expression.
PERFORMANCE level
This
level is primarily for dancers with performance experience and and will
be very advanced.
PLEASE
ALSO NOTE the level required for the ATS-classes, you need to consult
Dud if in doubt - This is to ensure the quality of these
group-dance classes.
Come
as often
as you like...
OPEN STUDIO is intensive classes and 100% focused on the dance art,
technique and expression. This means that classes are structured as
small independent workshops each week and every participants should
feel they are given something new whether they come for one class or
more.
There
are no choreography-training, only combos/structures that can be done
in one class. But there will be time and room for some
individual coaching.

GYPSY
FUSION
Spins,
turns, skirts
whirling .. big feelings, small stories, drama of life. This
is the essence of gypsy dance.
Using
techniques from both the Balkans, Russia, Spain, India and many of the
other gypsy influences gives this dance style a great
variety. In gypsy dance there is lots of room for personality
and individual expression.
Classes
will teach you attitude, expression, strong technique for turns, spins,
skirtwork, shawl-work, dramatic approach as well as an introduction to
new more modern approaches both in the dance as well as in the music!!
|
DARK
GYPSY FUSION:
With this dark gypsy fusion we interprete the more dramatic
feelings and work with mystique and ritual pictures in the dance,
making the dark side beautiful.
Technically
we will drill on very advanced turns, skirtwork, dance flow and sharp
figures from both the Flamenco and the Russian dance. We take in
halfheight-moves and also floorwork. Techniques from trance and ritual
dances will be included to create the atmosphere of calm mystique.
We
only work the ritual aspects as a dramatic process to give this fusion
styles its outglow - and a personal expression - it is the dance for
all Drama-Queens!
Please
remember to bring kneepads and your biggest gypsy skirt ...

|
TRIBAL STYLE DANCE
American
Tribal Style®:
Group improvised dance, where no choreography is used - but instead
formations and moves are shifted during dancing without words between
the dancers. To do this, all steps are standardized into small 2, 4 or
8 counts cued by hands, head or body moves. Moves and step are
influenced from Flamenco, Oriental folkore and contemporary dance.
Dud
teaches by the FatChanceBellydance®-format as invented by Carolena
Nericcio (USA)
For
ATS® classes we will drill on technique, precision and
synchronization -
all the fast & slow moves, the formations, how to lead and
follow. All aspect demands a lot of practice to work in
practice - but it is so much worth the drills and the efforts - and so
much fun!
This
style gives you fantastic strenght and ability to work together with
other dancers, to refine yourself and your technique and to be creative
in a group.
Also,
this style is also the sound dance foundation if you want to work with
tribal
fusion styles later on.
ATS®
is danced with zills - please bring your own zills to all classes.
It is
important to complete the training of the different levels before
moving up to next level. Please ask Dud before entering a new level.

Tribal
Fusion:
Slowmotion body-control, Hiphop/contemporary dance-input, smooooooth,
refined and surprising.
Tribal
Fusion is the
hotteste trend within bellydance right now. With this style
we drill on core strength, muscle work and extreme refinement.
As the
Tribal Fusion
has a strong foundation in ATS® it is
highly
recommended to take classes in BASIC-ATS in order to understand the
style and the technique behind.
Dark
Tribal Fusion/Gothic
The dark side of fusion takes in
expressions and feelings from the Gothic culture … working
with halfheight-moves, floorwork and more dramatized expressions. In
this fusion style we can go deeper into self expression
and also
work with dark characters like vampire, vamps, bitches, nocturnal
creatures ...
|
|
Burlesque
Fusion:
Tribal Style Fusion with the 1940-cabaret
touch.
Technique includes jazz dance
combinations, dramatized expression/"cirkus"-performance and basic
"tease-elements" which means working with our feminin power to capture
our audience. Also we will do a little very innocent stripping -
getting rid of our gloves, feathers ....so please bring these props to
release your inner Gypsy Rose Lee!
Technique
include classical jazz style work on toe, tribal style strengthening to
do some small acrobatic figures, kitty-kat-teasing working with every
feminin fibre you got - and a little touch of gypsy style dance.
When these
classes are offered at advanced level they require some backgound in
either tribal style or gypsy fusion. For beginners/intermediate level
it is enough to have basic dance skills from ex bellydance.
Please
bring dance pants or a SHORT skirt for these classes.
|
|
Af ro
Tribal Fusion
A
fantastic mix of afro, tribal style and a touch of deep grounded
ghawazee. This is dance of the Amazones!
The
technique is very bouncy and heavy - and we loose a lot of sweat!
This
is the very special fusion style that Dud has developped herself and
which has been performed by the Gypsy Mystique Dancers.
This
style does not include group improvisations.
|
|
BALADI
The Egyptian Baladi
dance is for women with both feet in the soil!
This very authentic dance
style is danced with heavy hips and lots of happiness. It is bellydance
from the time before time. The dance of the people.
We
train attitude, grounding, how-to-make-them-heavy-hips, to control the
simplicity of our moves in order to make it easy - and fun - to
improvise. And of course also to use our personality and self
expression in dance.
Dud
will base the classes on both Modern Balady and traditional
Baladi-structures. We will look into this style also as a way to work
in oriental fusion.
The
Baladi classes will also include music interpretation/basic rhytm
recognition - and in general the Baladi classes will be a good place
for both oriental, gypsy and tribal dancers to technically
get-back-to-the-roots.
|
|
Ghawazee
The
first oriental dancers described in history was in fact the
Ghawazee (sing: Ghaziya). This was the arabic gypsy dancers who the
English and the French travellers also met on their journeys to Egypt
around the period of 1850.
Usually
the ghawazee dancers would be hired for weedings and big gatherings and
therefore they had only one focus in their show: ENTERTAINMENT ... this
means that they knew how to improvise and put up a party for several
hours non-stop - and they mastered playing zills and dancing with
sticks (saidi) to impress.
This
dance style will show you the oriental dance in its basic nature: Flat
feet and heeeeavy hips - but also oldfashioned 3/4-shimmies, foot
stamping and jumpy steps.
|
|
TUNESIAN
DANCE
Fascinating twist-combos and beduin-steps … also good for
inspiration for Tribal ! This elegant folkloric
style is danced primarily on toes and with arms raised high. It can be
danced both solo and in groups - and a traditional prop is the water
jug balanced on the head or on the shoulder. The Tunesian rhytms have a
different structure than the arabic rhytms we know from Oriental dance,
which makes it an even more fun challenge - and it is worth the work.
The Tunesian classes are always very popular - simply because it is fun!
Please remember some
long scarfs for the hips .. and perhaps your tribal fringes :).
